Displacement.iom.int is an IOM online platform designed to enhance access to Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) information products on internal displacement, including a visualization of the scale of displacement monitored by IOM. A second complementary platform by DTM, flow.iom.int, intends to visualise population flows. Each platform is designed to facilitate a better understanding of displacement and mobility trends within and between countries or regions.  

Mobility tracking aims to quantify the presence of population categories within defined locations, with a frequency that captures mobility dynamics. Its approach is highly customizable: it can be light-touch or in-depth depending on the phase and requirements of the response, and it often increases in depth and detail over successive rounds. The online platform visualises mobility tracking data collected through baseline area assessments.

Baseline area assessments provide information on the presence of internally displaced populations in a defined administrative area, their reason and date of displacement and their shelter situation. Once a baseline or a list of locations hosting displaced populations has been identified, further location and/or site assessments are conducted to gather multi-layer and multi-themed data on the displaced groups. The objective of the location/site assessments is to collect in-depth data on the living conditions and needs of populations. This may include populations in camp and camp-like settings, or populations residing within host communities and/or areas of return of the observed population of concern.

DTM recorded 163,896 IDPs comprising 27,316 families across 7 governorates. The governorate of Ninewa hosted the most IDPs, 152,610 (93%). Mosul was the most commonly cited district of origin with 129, 456 people recorded as originating from there.

IOM recorded a cumulative total of 174,840 individuals comprising 106,241 households crossing the border into Haitian territory. 33.7% of these were female and 66.3% were male. 2,849 presumed unaccompanied minors were identified.

IOM's biometric registration project is currently being implemented in three states in northeastern Nigeria. In total, 340,734 individuals have been registered in Borno, 143,496 in Adamawa and 21,201 in Yobe.

A total of 711 evacuation shelters were inventoried. Of these, the DTM teams profiled 423 shelters and registered 79 shelters. As of 14 February 2017, 47 evacuation shelters remained open, hosting an estimated 7,015 persons (representing 1,564 households).

The cumulative total of individuals displaced within this period was 217,764 (36,294 families). The district hosting the largest number of IDPs within this period was Al-Hamdaniya with 69,714 recorded IDPs.

From 2 November 2016 through 7 February 2017, a total of 435 heads of household were interviewed at Zero Point and IOM’s Transit Center near the border. The results of those interviews are analyzed in the following report.

As of 2 February, the DTM has identified 3,030,006 IDPs since January 2014, dispersed across 106 districts and 3,661 locations in Iraq. During this same period DTM has also identified 1,495,962 returnees.

Between December 2016 and January 2017, the number of identified IDPs increased by 129,386 individuals (7.3% increase). This brought the total number if IDPs in Nigeria to 1,899,830 (337,353 households).

The DTM recorded 390,618 IDPs comprising 65,103 families. The majority of the displaced population, 153,006 are within the Mosul area.

As of January 25, 2017, DTM has identified 1,899,830 IDPs (337,353 households) across Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states.
