Displacement.iom.int is an IOM online platform designed to enhance access to Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) information products on internal displacement, including a visualization of the scale of displacement monitored by IOM. A second complementary platform by DTM, flow.iom.int, intends to visualise population flows. Each platform is designed to facilitate a better understanding of displacement and mobility trends within and between countries or regions.  

Mobility tracking aims to quantify the presence of population categories within defined locations, with a frequency that captures mobility dynamics. Its approach is highly customizable: it can be light-touch or in-depth depending on the phase and requirements of the response, and it often increases in depth and detail over successive rounds. The online platform visualises mobility tracking data collected through baseline area assessments.

Baseline area assessments provide information on the presence of internally displaced populations in a defined administrative area, their reason and date of displacement and their shelter situation. Once a baseline or a list of locations hosting displaced populations has been identified, further location and/or site assessments are conducted to gather multi-layer and multi-themed data on the displaced groups. The objective of the location/site assessments is to collect in-depth data on the living conditions and needs of populations. This may include populations in camp and camp-like settings, or populations residing within host communities and/or areas of return of the observed population of concern.

On July 13 2017, an assessment was carried out to ascertain the situation of the new arrivals at custom house which arrived on 12 July 2017.

The cross border flow monitoring map displays movements of displaced populations as of June based on DTM and UNHCR data.

DTM identified 137,552 IDP families comprised of 825,312 individuals. The majority of the identified individuals (739,200) originated from Mosul. 395,562 people were living in unknown shelter arrangements and 357,054 people were living in camps or emergency settings.

DTM identified 137,552 IDP families (825,312 individuals) who are currently displaced and 37,122 returnee families (222,732 individuals). 48% of the displaced population is living in unknown shelter arrangements and 33% are living in emergency sites or camps.  

Military operations in west Mosul led to the dis-placement of thousands of individuals to camps and out-of-camp locations, which are continuously being identified and monitored, when ac-accessible, by the DTM team.

As of 30 June 2017, the DTM has identified 3,351,132 internally displaced persons (558,522 families) displaced after January 2014, dispersed across 104 districts and 3,654 locations in Iraq. For the same period, DTM has identified 1,952,868 returnees (325,478 families).

In response to the needs of people affected by the recent floods in South Darfur State, the DTM team conducted registration and verification exercises in Kalma IDP camp, South Darfur to register and identify the flood affected population.

This DTM Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) has been deployed to track and provide up-to-date information on sudden displacement and other population movements in Bama, Chibok, Damboa, Dikwa, Gubio, Gwoza, Kaga, Kala Balge, Konduga, Kukawa, Mafa, Monguno and Ngala.

On 9 June 2017, at Korma IDP gathering site, a fire incident was reported to result in fire damage to 1,001 shelters, 5 fatalities (2 males and 3 females), and 19 casualties.

During the reporting period DTM identified 137,938 IDP families comprised of 827,628 individuals. 395,562 individuals were living in unknown shelter arrangements and 359,670 individuals were living in camps and emergency sites.

DTM identified 136,973 IDP families (comprised of 821,838) who are currently still displaced. DTM also identified 212,832 returnees comprising 35,472 families. The main district of displacement is Mosul where 627,366 individuals were identified.

DTM identified 945,182 IDPs, 454,054 outgoing migrants and 1,471,388 returnees from abroad. 16,701 key informants were interviewed across 9 provinces and 120 districts. A total of 3,920 settlements were assessed.

During the reporting period DTM identified 3,798 displaced families (16,070 individuals).

In Garabolli, 112 migrants were reportedly found in a truck on the week of 15 June 2017 and six migrants were reported to have been kidnapped and assaulted on the road between Sebha and Ashshwayrif.

During this reporting period 1,278 individuals were observed crossing the border into Haitian territory; this is below the average of 1,867 per week. Of these, 1,120 individuals were voluntarily registered. 58 UASC were identified, which is above the average of 32 individuals.

DTM identified 178,355 families comprising 1,079,130 individuals. 4, 38,966 are currently living in camps or emergency sites.

DTM identified 136,373 Families comprised of 818,238 displaced individuals. Of these 730,962 reportedly originated from Mosul district. 389,898 are in unknown shelter arrangements and 355,518 are living in camps and emergency sites.

During the month of June 2017, IOM DTM teams conducted 4 field missions, covering 9 sites/villages, to register and verify different caseloads of IDPs, returnees, refugees and affected host communities in the states of North Darfur, Central Darfur, South Darfur and South Kordofan.
