Displacement.iom.int is an IOM online platform designed to enhance access to Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) information products on internal displacement, including a visualization of the scale of displacement monitored by IOM. A second complementary platform by DTM, flow.iom.int, intends to visualise population flows. Each platform is designed to facilitate a better understanding of displacement and mobility trends within and between countries or regions.  

Mobility tracking aims to quantify the presence of population categories within defined locations, with a frequency that captures mobility dynamics. Its approach is highly customizable: it can be light-touch or in-depth depending on the phase and requirements of the response, and it often increases in depth and detail over successive rounds. The online platform visualises mobility tracking data collected through baseline area assessments.

Baseline area assessments provide information on the presence of internally displaced populations in a defined administrative area, their reason and date of displacement and their shelter situation. Once a baseline or a list of locations hosting displaced populations has been identified, further location and/or site assessments are conducted to gather multi-layer and multi-themed data on the displaced groups. The objective of the location/site assessments is to collect in-depth data on the living conditions and needs of populations. This may include populations in camp and camp-like settings, or populations residing within host communities and/or areas of return of the observed population of concern.

As part of its tenth round of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) conducted a Return Intention Survey targeting IDPs in the Far North Region of Cameroon.

Dans le cadre de sa dixième phase de la Matrice de Suivi des Deplacements (DTM), l’Organisation Internationale pour les Migrations (OIM) a mené une Enquête sur les Intentions de Retour ciblant les Personnes Deplacées Internes (PDIs) dans la région de l’Extrême-Nord du Cameroun.

Following a volcano eruption on the Ambae island, a majority of displaced people fled to and around Luganville. Around 35 camps and evacuation centers, housing 5,901 individuals divided in 1606 households, were set up. 51% of individuals housed in were male and 49% were female.

DTM and NFI teams collected updated information on the number and needs of IDPs within South Sudan in the areas of Lainya and Wonduruba. A total of 2,397 displaced households were recorded in Wonduruba, while 2,389 or 4,659 households were recorded as displaced, depending on the source.

Hurricane Maria made landfall on the island of Dominica on 18 September 2017 as a category 5 hurricane, causing the death of at least 26 persons and extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Following an outbreak of violence on 25 August 2017 in the Rakhine State of Myanmar, a new massive influx of Rohingya population to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh started in late August 2017.

Following the passage of Hurricane Maria, the Ministry of Education announced a plan to progressively reopen schools. IOM carried out assessments  which showed that 43 schools were still serving as collective centers, 33 of which were housing displaced individuals.

DTM identified 237,967 internally displaced persons, 29,728 unregistered refugees and 61,090 returnees. 7% of the displaced population was displaced by flooding and other natural disasters while the vast majority (93%) was displaced by conflict.

The displaced population is estimated at 328,785 individuals (237,967 IDPs, 29,728 unregistered refugees and 61,090 returnees). 726 villages were evaluated including 3 new villages. 56 uninhabited villages were identified.

The DTM has been monitoring displacement movements from west Anbar areas, particularly the districts of Ana, Al-Ka’im and Ru’ua, since January 2017.

A la date du 30 septembre 2017, les partenaires de la CMP ont comptabilisé 61 089 rapatriés, ce qui correspond à une augmentation de 716 personnes par rapport aux données du mois d’Août 20171 (60 373 Rapatriés).

Les premières évaluations DTM ont eu lieu dans la province du Kasaï Central du 26 août au 16 septembre 2017. Un total de 197,519 personnes déplacées ont été identifiées dans les 1,809 villages évalués.

In Sabratha, clashes were reported as of 15 September, resulting in the displacement of 3,100 households (15,135 individuals) to Surman, Janoub Azzawia, South Sabratha, Al Ajaylat and Aljamil. The main reported need is food.

On 23 May 2017, a group of rebel fighters called the “Maute Group” attacked the city of Marawi in Lanao del Sur, population: 211,000+. The assault affected 98% of the population, displacing 359,680 people.
