Displacement.iom.int is an IOM online platform designed to enhance access to Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) information products on internal displacement, including a visualization of the scale of displacement monitored by IOM. A second complementary platform by DTM, flow.iom.int, intends to visualise population flows. Each platform is designed to facilitate a better understanding of displacement and mobility trends within and between countries or regions.  

Mobility tracking aims to quantify the presence of population categories within defined locations, with a frequency that captures mobility dynamics. Its approach is highly customizable: it can be light-touch or in-depth depending on the phase and requirements of the response, and it often increases in depth and detail over successive rounds. The online platform visualises mobility tracking data collected through baseline area assessments.

Baseline area assessments provide information on the presence of internally displaced populations in a defined administrative area, their reason and date of displacement and their shelter situation. Once a baseline or a list of locations hosting displaced populations has been identified, further location and/or site assessments are conducted to gather multi-layer and multi-themed data on the displaced groups. The objective of the location/site assessments is to collect in-depth data on the living conditions and needs of populations. This may include populations in camp and camp-like settings, or populations residing within host communities and/or areas of return of the observed population of concern.

The Rohingya influx in Cox’s Bazar has put pressure on the district’s Bangladeshi community, particularly in the upazilas of Teknaf and Ukhia where the Rohingya now constitute at least one third of the total population.

Dans le cadre de sa douzième phase de la Matrice de Suivi des Deplacements (DTM), l’Organisation Internationale pour les Migrations (OIM) a mené une Enquête sur les Intentions de Retour ciblant les Personnes Deplacées Internes (PDIs) dans la région de l’Extrême-Nord du Cameroun.

Following a volcano eruption on Kadovar Island on the 5th of January 2018, Kadovar islanders were temporarily evacuated to safety on Ruprup Island before their relocation to Dandan care centre between 14th and 16th January.

The DTM Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) was deployed to track and provide up to date information on sudden displacement and population movements.

IOM conducted flow monitoring at various cross border points, transit areas, PoCs, and IDP Collective sites across South Sudan. During the reporting period, DTM tracked 11,394 individuals (57% female) transiting 17 active Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs).

DTM conducted a Village Assessment Survey in Yambio Payam in December 2017 to inform humanitarian partners about gaps in available services that could impede returns. 13 out of a total of 52 villages were deserted (25%). 31 out of 52 villages had water points (60%).

IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix has been monitoring displacement movements since 15 October 2017, when Iraqi security forces began moving into disputed areas that had previously been held by Kurdish forces.

In Tripoli, On 15th of January, heavy attacks were reported in Mitiga International Airport. In Benghazi, On 8th of January, In Thawra Echaabia muhalla 400 returnee families were reported as residing in schools. The main needs have been reported as shelter and medical assistance.

In the week of 12-18 January 2018, there were 645 new arrivals, the most recorded since the first week of November, as well as 26 exits at the Baidoa checkpoints.
