DTM teams activated Emergency Event Tracking (EET) to monitor the displacement of individuals affected by inter-communal conflict between Masalit and Arab tribes. Clashes erupted on 16 January 2021 in the Krinding area of Ag Geneina town, West Darfur. The eighth update estimates a total number of 116,819 individuals (23,804 households) seeking shelter in Ag Geneina and its surrounding villages, having been displaced from Krinding 1 and 2 IDP camps (49%), Sultan House area (15%), Hai Eljabal area (8%) and other villages nearby (28%). Since the seventh update, there has been a three per cent decrease in the captured number of individuals displaced, including a decrease of 2,259 individuals (2%) in Ag Geneina town due to ongoing verification by DTM field teams. Furthermore, 1,335 individuals have since departed Misterei village to return to their place of origin in Noro, Beida locality, due to security improvements. Only three displaced households now remain in Misterei village. All displaced individuals are Sudanese nationals. At least 13,960 individuals are reported to have additional vulnerabilities in need of assistance and support. DTM teams identify 152 individuals have been killed and 407 sustained injuries, whilst at least 7,857 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have lost personal belongings and livestock. Based on a ranking scale, the three main priority needs for the displaced caseload in Ag Geneina town are food, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) and education.

This Middle East and North Africa (MENA) report summarizes mobility restrictions at airports, land, and blue border crossing points resulting from the mitigation measures implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
DTM’s Flow Monitoring Registry (FMR) surveys people on the move at key transit points within South Sudan (SSD) and at its borders. It provides an insight into mobility trends, migration drivers and traveller profiles to inform programming by humanitarian and development partners and by the government, complementing DTM’s monitoring of COVID-19 mobility restrictions. In total, 31 Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) were active in January 2021, surveying internal flows and crossborder travel with Uganda (UGA), the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sudan (SDN), Ethiopia (ETH) and the Central African Republic (CAR). Two FMPs (Rubkona bus station and Bentiu bus station) were deactivated at the end of December 2020 in Rubkona County following a re-prioritization exercise. Figures are only indicative of existing trends among respondents at the active FMPs since DTM does not have full coverage of cross-border or internal flows. Participation in the survey is voluntary and anonymous. Please click here to access the dataset.

In early November 2020, conflict broke out in the north of Ethiopia and this has displaced many from their homes. From 11 December — 14 January 2021, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) deployed its Emergecny Site Assessment to capture internal displacement related to the Northern Ethiopia Crisis. This multisectoral location assessment assesses the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and collects basic information on the multisectoral needs of IDPs at site level. In this second round, 131,590 IDPs (30,383 households) were idnetified to be displaced across 39 accessible sites in Tigray, Amhara and Afar regions. 91,046 IDPs (20,530 households) were found in Tigray region, 6,453 IDPs (3,533 households) in Amhara region and 34,091 IDPs (6,320 households) in Afar region. As access constraints and insecurity were considerable challenges, please note that these displacement figures are not reflective of the displacement total for the Northern Ethiopia Crisis but rather are the number of IDPs identified in the 39 sites that were accessible this round.
Nigeria's North Central and North West Zones are afflicted with a mulltidimensional crisis that is rooted in long-standing tensions between ethnic and religious groups and involves attacks by criminal groups and banditry/hirabah (such as kidnapping and grand larceny along major highways). The crisis has accelerated during the past years because of the intensification of atacks and has resulted in widespread displacement across the region. Between 22 and 28 February, armed clashes between herdsmen and farmers, and bandits and local communities have led to a fresh wave of population displacement. Following these events, a rapid assessment was conducted by DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field staff with the purpose of informing the humanitarian community and government partners, and enable targeted response. Flash reports utilise direct observation and a broad network of key informants to gather representative data and collect information on the number, profile and immediate needs of affected populations. Latest attacks affected 2,220 individuals, including 53 injuries and 61 fatalities, in Chikun and Igabi LGAs of Kaduna State, Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State and Maru, Maradun, Tsafe, Zurmi, Gusau LGA of Zamfara State. The attacks caused people to flee to neighbouring localities.
