Between 12—19 January 1,886 individuals were observed crossing the border into Haitian territory. Of these: 803 individuals declared having returned spontaneously 214 individuals claimed to have been deported into Haitian territory and 869 individuals were officially deported into Haitian territory at the official border crossing points of Ouanaminthe, Malpasse and Belladère.

DTM recorded a cumulative total of 187,986 IDP’s and 28,980 returnees within this period. 98% of the IDPs are displaced within the district of Ninewa. 71% are in emergency camps, 15% are in private accommodation, 13% are at emergency sites. 

Cumulatively from the first week of June 2015 to 26 January 2017, 101,893 households representing 168,810 individuals have crossed the border into Haitian territory. 33.9% were female while 66.1% were male. 2,744 presumed unaccompanied minors were identified. 5,957 households declared having been registered in the PNRE corresponding to 11,543 individuals. 102,944 individuals declared having returned spontaneously. 28,605 individuals claim to have been deported. 36,799 individuals were officially deported at the three official border crossing points of Ouanaminthe, Malpasse and Belladere.  

Currently over 119,000 people are seeking protection in this site. Humanitarian partners and UNMISS are working together with the community to improve the living condition in the PoC area. Current priority needs are: improvement of water supplies, registration of new arrivals and the verification of IDPs. 

As of 15 January 2017, the total number of IDPs in the UN Mission in South Sudan’s Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Bentiu was 120,079 individuals. The first round January 2017 population count was held in Bentiu PoC from 13 to 15 January 2017. Compared to the previous count conducted in end of December, the population increased from 119,853 individuals to 120,079.

1,099,509 returnees to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states were identified. 64,151 (5.8%) are Nigerian refugees from Chad and Cameroon. The dashboard includes a map showing the number of returnees identified by Local Government Area (LGA) assessed and details of the states or countries returnees returned from.
