DTM conducted an intention and a multi-sectorial needs survey in Wiechjol (Jonglei State) to create a prole of the displaced population. Focus group discussions and individual surveys showed that IDPs within the host community at locations up to four hours walk from the centre of Wiechjol; There are no health facilities at all six IDPs sites (the closest functioning health facility is located 11 hours away on foot in Lankien); There are boreholes at four out of six of the assessed IDPs sites (no boreholes in Donykhan and Pangaw); Stagnant water is used for drinking, cooking and washing; and Wiechjol is the only village with a functioning school, which is up to four hours away from the other five locations.

As of 31 October 2017, the DTM has identified 3,173,088 internally displaced persons (528,848 families) displaced after January 2014, dispersed across 99 districts and 3,719 locations in Iraq. For the same period, DTM has also identified 2,624,430 returnees (437,405 families). Overall, the total number of identified IDPs decreased by approximately 1%. Decreases were recorded across 10 of Iraq’s 18 governorates. The most notable increases in IDP numbers were 26% (40,242 individuals) in Sulaymaniyah Governorate and 19% (58,590) in Erbil Governorate. This rise was largely triggered by the handover of the disputed areas from the Kurdish Peshmerga to the Iraqi Security Forces during the second half of October. The returnee population increased by 15% during the month of October –three times the increase of the previous monitoring period. The governorate with the highest number of returnees was Kirkuk, which saw an almost 30-fold increase, partly due to the end of the Hawija crisis.

The DTM has been monitoring displacement movements from West Anbar areas, particularly the districts of Ana, Al-Ka’im and Ru’ua, since January 2017. Displacement has been taking place since then as a consequence of hostilities in the area, and mainly in anticipation of the larger military operations announced to be launched several times throughout 2017. The DTM has consequently set up an integrated system composed of a flow monitoring system at Kilo 18 screening site and the regular DTM Emergency Tracking, which tracks IDPs at their location of displacement. 60,132 IDPs transited through Kilo 18 screening site since January 2017; 67,134 IDPs displaced from West Anbar since January 2017 and identified at their location of displacement, of these: 43,380 IDPs currently registered in camps; 23,754 IDPs identified in out-of-camp locations, including: 21,366 IDPs in private settings and 2388 IDPs in critical shelter.

The Border Monitoring Network focuses on the identification and profiling of persons crossing the Dominican-Haiti border as well as supporting the management and provision of assistance to vulnerable individuals. During the reporting period 2,341 individuals were observed crossing into Haiti. This is below the average of 1,882 per week. A total of 2,924 individuals were officially deported in that same period.. This constitutes a 56% decrease compared to the previous reporting period. This decrease can be attributed to the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, which has greatly affected the Northern part of the Dominican Republic.

DTM Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) was deployed to track and provide up to date information on sudden displacement and population movements in: Askira, Bama, Chibok, Damboa, Dikwa, Gubio, Gwoza, Jere, Kaga, Kala/Balge, Konduga, Kukawa, Mafa, Maiduguri, Monguno, Ngala and Hong in Borno State and Madagali, Michika, Mubi North and Mubi South in Adamawa State.
