Persons exiting PoC sites should not be seen as returnees as these population movements are often cyclical as opposed to permanent. Wau PoC AA site has witnessed relatively more inflows than exits over the three months (F.1&2). The majority of all entering individuals arrived from within Western Bahr el Ghazal (87%), whereas six per cent came from Juba and five per cent came from Khartoum, Sudan. The majority (93%) of all exiting individuals left to areas within Western Bahr el Ghazal.

Published on a bi-weekly basis, the Displacement Event Tracker reports on incidents related to IDPs, returnees and migrants, especially in regards to large population movement updates. On 9th April 2000 migrants, predominantly Algerian, were reported in Daraj Baladiya. Approximately 40 Syrians pass through Ghadamis per week. On 9th of April clashes started in Tarhuna, Muhalla Targhlat, displacing households to Tripoli.

Malakal PoC site has witnessed disproportionally large inflows as opposed to exits over the last weeks. While half all entering individuals arrived from within Upper Nile State, 29 per cent came from Sudan and six per cent from Juba.

Bentiu PoC site has witnessed consistently more exits than entries over the three months. Half all entering individuals arrived from within Unity State and 26 per cent came from Khartoum, Sudan. The majority (77%) of all exiting individuals left for destinations in Unity State whereas seven percent indicated going to Khartoum, Sudan.

Over the reporting period, 387 entries and 17 exits were recorded at Kismayo check points, both marked reductions from the previous week. Over half of the new arrivals said that their reason for displacement was lack of food (56%). In addition, 21 per cent cited insecurity, 10 per cent cited education and 7 per cent cited health as their reason for displacement. This week most of the new arrivals came from Kismayo (33%) and Badhaadhe (28%) districts, with the remaining arriving from Afmadow (10%), Jilib (8%), Buaale (8%), and a few other locations. Most of these new arrivals were heading to IDP sites in the Dalxiska Section of sites (22%), which is on the east side of Kismayo town. As for the rest, 19 per cent were heading to Fanole Section, 17 per cent to Galbet Section and 14 per cent to Central Section.

IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix has been monitoring displacement movements since 15 October 2017, when Iraqi security forces began moving into disputed areas that had previously been held by Kurdish forces. These areas included parts of Ninewa, Diyala, Salah al-Din and Erbil governorates. DTM identified 226,026 returnees and 118,334 IDPs. 

DTM has been monitoring displacement movements from West Anbar governorate, particularly the districts of Ana, Al Ka’im and Ru’a, since January 2017. ISF operations to retake ISIL's last strongholds in west Anbar intensified in September 2017 and finished in November 2017. 44,838 IDPs are currently displaced from west Anbar since January 2017 and identified at their location of displacement, of these: 27,588 IDPs currently registered in camps; 17,250 IDPs identified in out-of-camp locations; 16,542 IDPs in private settings; 708 IDPs in critical shelter.

The DTM Burundi dashboard for the month of March 2018 covers all 18 provinces of Burundi. The DTM has identified 174,011 internally displaced persons (IDPs) amidst 38,538 households. 89,746 IDPs (52%) were living with host families, 7,964 IDPs (5%) were living in camps and displacement sites, 33.663 IDPs (19%) were living in emtpy and straw houses, and 42,638 IDPs (24%) were living in rented housing. 71% of IDPs (121,629) were displaced as a result of natural disasters and 29% of IDPs (50,780) were displaced as a result of sociopolitical issues.  

Within the period of 10 to 16 April 2018, a total of 3,795 arrivals and 515 departures were recorded at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Chibok, Damboa, Demsa, Dikwa, Fufore, Girei, Gombi, Guzamala, Gwoza, Hawul, Hong, Jere, Kala/Balge, Konduga, Kukawa, Madagali, Mafa, Magumeri, Maiha, Michika, Mobbar, Monguno, Mubi-North, Mubi-South, Ngala, Numan, Yola-North and Yola-South LGAs of Borno and Adamawa States. The main triggers of movements were poor living conditions (39%), voluntary relocation (31%), improved security (18%), military operations (5%), ongoing conflict (5%) and fear of attacks (2%).

DTM identified 123,996 returnees across Iraq in March 2018, which is a 4% increase in the number of returnees compared to last month. Returns have been sustained since July 2016, when the campaign against ISIL intensified, with the periods October–November 2016 (aftermath of the offensive to retake the Anbar districts of Ramadi, Heet and Fallujah as well as eastern districts of Ninewa), May–June 2017 (Mosul operations) and September–December 2017 (last advance of the retaking campaign) witnessing the highest numbers of returns.

A total of 1,279,740 individuals have reportedly returned to Ninewa Governorate, meaning that the number of returnees in Ninewa Governorate has increased by 9% (107,292 individuals) this month. Ninewa Governorate alone accounts for 86% (107,292) of the newly identified returnees across Iraq this month, of whom 77,166 went back to Mosul district. This increase is due to the joint validation exercise DTM and local authorities conducted in east and west Mosul to confirm returnee numbers.
