Between 1 and 30 July 2018, the average number of individuals observed daily at the two flow monitoring point in Niger increased by 161% compared to June, with a significant increase in flows at the Seguedine FMP in particular. During this month, Agadez, Assamaka, Arlit (Niger), Sebha, Tripoli, Awbari, Mourzouk and Misrata (Libya) were the main departure cvities of the individuals transiting thought the two FMPs located in Niger, while Agadez, Arlit, Assamaka (Niger), Sebha, Tripoli and Benghazi were the main destination cities. 

Within the period of 8 – 14 August 2018, a total of 4,675 movements were recorded, including 4,269 arrivals and 406 departures at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Chibok, Damboa, Demsa, Dikwa, Fufore, Girei, Gombi, Gubio, Guzamala, Gwoza, Hawul, Hong, Jere, Kaga, Konduga, Kukawa, Madagali, Mafa, Magumeri, Maiduguri, Maiha, Mayo-Belwa, Michika, Mobbar, Monguno, Mubi-North, Mubi-South, Ngala, Nganzai, Numan, Yola-North and Yola-South Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Adamawa and Borno States. Assessments identified the following main triggers of movements: ongoing conflict (34%), poor living conditions (30%), voluntary relocation (12%), improved security (11%), military operations (9%) and fear of attacks/communal clashes (4%). 

In coordination with other humanitarian actors DTM Libya conducted a rapid assessment on 16 August 2018. The DTM rapid assessment aims to complement efforts undertaken by other organizations and did for this reason not include any protection-related data collection. On 10 August 2018, 370 Tawerghan families previously residing at Triq Al Matar Camp in Tripoli were displaced, following a forced eviction from the IDP camp by a local militia. The majority of households were displaced to other areas in Tripoli, most dispersed in urban areas in private accommodation while 65 households gathered in informal settlements at Al Jibs/Al Dawa al Islameya. The most frequently mentioned priority need was shelter, cited by 72% of families surveyed in urban areas. Furthermore, more than two thirds of surveyed households are in need of food assistance, followed by WASH, Cash and NFI needs.

DTM Quarterly Regional Reports are produced and published every 3 months to consolidate and present summary updates and highlights of regional popuation mobility situation. The report looks into internal displacement, intraregional cross-border movements, as well as interregional flows in the West and Central African Region.

In mid-July, armed attacks in the Dungop in Abyei led to the displacement of 150 individuals (30 households) to Abyei’s Ameth Aguok region. In early August, humanitarian partners were alerted to the presence of the IDPs and organized an assessment mission to the displacement site, where IDPs are currently residing primarily with family members in the host community. Ongoing WFP food distribution in the area has mitigated the impact of displacement.

IOM DTM is measuring migration to and from Sudan passing through Abyei Town (Amiet Market). Migration to Sudan has been 4.5 times higher than movement from Sudan into South Sudan during the reporting period, December 2017 to June 2018. Movement into Sudan peaked in February 2018 when 1,850 individuals passed through the Flow Monitoring Point (FMP) in direction of Sudan (F.1). Khartoum, Sudan remains the most common destination (79%), followed by Warrap (6%), located just south of Abyei.

IOM uses the Emergency Tracking Tool to compile daily information from various partners including: local and international NGOs, and local and national authorities. Compilation is done through document review, as well as personal and/or phone interviews. From 29 July to 7 August 2018, IOM identified an increase of 1,393 displaced households displaced from Al Hudaydah, bringing the total number of displaced households to 57,534 (an estimated 345,204 individuals) forced to leave their homes since the escalation of conflict in early June. The largest increases being seen within the Amanat Al Asimah, Taizz and Ibb governorates.
