In the reporting period, 483 undocumented Afghans returned from Pakistan (a 33% increase compared to the previous week) and 14,618 returned from Iran (2% less than the week before).

This report is a joint IOM-UNHCR report depicting Afghan returns from the neighbouring Islamic Republics of Iran and Pakistan and challenges faced by returning Afghans. Over 610,000 Afghans returned from the Islamic Republics of Iran and Pakistan in 2017.

In the reporting period, 364 undocumented Afghans returned from Pakistan (a 22% increase compared to the previous week) and 14,919 returned from Iran (33% more than the week before).

In the reporting period, 299 undocumented Afghans returned from Pakistan (a 48% decrease compared to the previous week) and 11,236 returned from Iran (6% more than the week before). Significantly more undocumented Afghans returned through Melak (7,439) than through Islam Qala (2,938). 

A total of 1,881 undocumented Afghans spontaneously returned or were deported from Pakistan between 01-31 January 2018. In the same time period, 47,266 undocumented Afghans returned or were deported from Iran. 
 

A total of 590 undocumented Afghans spontaneously returned or were deported from Pakistan through the Turkham (Nangarhar) and Spin Boldak (Kandahar) border crossings between 28 January and 3 Feb 2018, according to the Border Monitoring Team of the Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation (DoRR).

Between 19 - 25 November 2017, 666 Undocumented Afghans either spontaneously returned (571) or were deported (95) from Pakistan, a 22% decrease compared to the previous week, while 13,842 spontaneously returned or were deported from Iran, a 1% increase from the previous week.

Between 29 October – 4 November 2017, 968 Undocumented Afghans either spontaneously returned (862) or were deported (106) from Pakistan, a 5% increase compared to the previous week, while 18,083 spontaneously returned or were deported from Iran, a 0.3% increase from the previous week.

Within the period covered DTM recorded 1,059 undocumented Afghans spontaneously returned from Pakistan and 15,808 undocumented Afghan returnees from Iran.
